USS Lincoln sailor in trouble

The Navy has charged a sailor stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln with robbery and assault after a dispute with a taxi driver over a fare, a Navy official said.

The altercation with the driver took place at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday at Pearl Harbor, said Navy spokeswoman Agnes Tauyan.

Tauyan said the driver suffered black eyes and a possible broken nose. Base police and emergency medical technicians responded. The driver was checked and refused treatment, Tauyan said.

Cong Ha said his brother, Tho Ha, a driver for The Cab, picked up the sailor in Waikiki, and drove him to Pearl Harbor. The Cab has a contract with the Navy to drive onto the base, officials said.

"His face is swollen. Now he cannot work," Cong Ha said.

Tauyan said disciplinary action will be taken by the ship. The Lincoln left Sunday for San Diego and Everett, Wash., after a daylong visit to Hawai'i following a nine-month deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
