Candidates for UH post will make appearances

Advertiser Staff

The four final candidates for the University of Hawai'i position of Vice President of Academic Affairs — chief academic officer for the UH system — will be at the various campuses this week for appearances before students and faculty.

The four include:

  • Roger W. Bowen, most recently president and chief executive officer of the Milwaukee Public Museum. From 1996-2001 he served as president of the State University of New York at New Paltz. He holds a doctorate in political science from the University of British Columbia.
  • James P. Chapman, provost of the University of Alaska, Anchorage, where he serves as chief academic officer. Before that he was president of Shawnee State College, one of Ohio's 13 public universities. He holds a doctorate in philosophy from Indiana University.
  • Dianne Francis Harrison, associate vice president for academic affairs and the dean of Graduate Studies at Florida State University. From 1994-2000 she served as the dean of the School of Social Work at FSU and holds a doctorate in social work from Washington University.
  • David McClain, interim dean of Research for the UH system. Before assuming that position last month, McClain was dean and First Hawaiian Bank Distinguished Professor of Leadership and Management for the College of Business Administration at UH-Manoa. McClain holds a doctorate in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Public sessions are scheduled through Friday on various UH campuses to offer faculty, staff students and community members a chance to meet the candidates, hear their presentations and ask questions.
