THE LEFT LANE
Mo done in miniature

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Outside Gate 25, on the 'Ewa Concourse of Honolulu International, near the international terminal, sits the Mighty Mo.

Well ... sits a 18 1/2-foot-long brass replica of that class of battleship.

The USS Missouri Memorial Association set up a glass-encased display of the refurbished model in the terminal on July 2. It's 1/48 scale. It weighs 450 pounds. It's 28 inches wide. And it's valued at about $100,000.

The drawback? Only those with a ticket can see the replica — it's within the terminal.

Bagging a big bean

Mike Evans is at it again. You may remember him as the Pearl Harbor sailor who discovered a six-ounce Cheeto, the size of a small lemon, in his 3-year-old son's snack bag. When he put the Cheeto on eBay, radio stations from around the country were phoning him. Eventually, Evans took the Cheeto off the auction site and gave it to Algona, a rural town in Iowa.

Now Evans has a raw bean four times the size of normal Boston baked bean. Like the Cheeto, the oversized veggie is on the market, with the bidding topping $15 so far. Go to www.ebay.com and search for "Enormous, gargantuan Boston Baked Bean," Item No. 2942232082.

The auction closes today.

In-flight knitting back

Several items previously banned on carry-ons are now allowed on flights. Knitting needles, cigar cutters, tweezers and disposable lighters (not deemed a "torch") are now allowed. Large scissors are still a no-no.

Tip: Take a small, stamped, self-addressed padded envelope with you to the airport in case you want to mail any restricted items home.
