Kaimuki group elects president

David Chinaka has been elected president of the Kaimuki Business & Professional Association. Chinaka, of Chinaka, Siu & Co. CPAs, was elected during the association's 57th annual installation banquet.

Also named to the association are: Andrew Glatzel of Edward Jones & Co., Eric Wong of Law Offices of Eric Wong, Rene Tam Ho of Bank of Hawaii, Chris Yuen of Ohata Chun Yuen LLP CPAs and Keven Matsuura of Central Pacific Bank.

The association sponsors a Halloween contest, a Christmas parade, an Easter egg hunt and community forums.



Society recognizes landscape works

The American Society of Landscape Architects, Hawaii Chapter, recently recognized the following landscape professionals for their achievements:

• Loriann Gordon, private residence/design category, for the landscaping of Persis Corp. headquarters at 2447 Makiki Heights Drive; participants, Loriann Gordon Landscape Architect, CJS Group, Progressive Landscaping and John Daley Landscapes.

• Thomas Witten, general design category, for the landscaping of Kikaua Point Park for WB Kukio Resorts; participants, PBR Hawaii, Design Partners Inc., Sam O. Hirota Inc., Takano Nakamura Landscaping Inc.

• Mike Terry, planning and analysis category, for the Pearl Harbor Historic Trail/City and County of Honolulu; participant, Belt Collins Hawaii Ltd.

Honor Award winners were Dana Anne Yee for the Maryknoll Preschool play area, aided by Landscape Architect, Next Design and Green Thumb Inc.; and Umemoto Cassandro Design Corp. in association with Leland Miyano for the Friendship Circle and Garden of the East-West Center, assisted by Durrant-Media Five, Green Thumb Inc., Leung & Pang Associates Inc., Turf & Shrub Care Hawaii Inc. and Electricians Inc.

Merit Awards went to Michael Motoda of Walters, Kimura and Motoda Inc. (three awards); Loriann Gordon Landscape Architect; Mike Terry, ASLA, Belt Collins Hawaii Ltd.; Russell Y.J. Chung, PBR Hawaii; R. Stan Duncan, PBR Hawaii (two awards); Dana Anne Yee; Miyabara Associates; Janet Gillmar, Manoa Campus Walkways Study Group, School of Architecture, University of Hawai'i; Wendie McAllister, Helber Hastert & Fee, Planners.
