Hawai'i knocks off Oregon to win Senior baseball title

Matt Haasenritter went 3 for 4 with a double and triple and drove in four runs to lead Hawai'i over Oregon, 9-1, in the championship game of the Senior Little League (ages 13-14) baseball tournament at Forest Grove, Ore., yesterday.

Kulea Dondallian also went 3 for 4 for Hawai'i and drove in three runs.

With the win, Hawai'i will play in the Western Regional tomorrow.



SOFTBALL

• Lokahi splits: Lokahi split a pair of games as it routed the Fresno Heat, 8-0, and fell short to the All City All-Stars, Calif., 7-6, in yesterday's pool play at the Western ASA (10-younger) Tournament at Manteca, Calif.

Sheridan Mahelona pitched a no-hitter and struck out 14 hitters in the first game.

• Mililani Prep wins: Valana Manuma had a two-run double and Sarah Weisskopf tossed a complete game as Mililani Prep held on to defeat the Omaha Finesse 3-2, in yesterday's ASA Girls 18-under National Championship at Garland, Texas.

Weisskopf had an RBI single for Mililani.

Mililani must win three straight games to remain in the winners' bracket of the tournament, which has 140 teams from around the United States.



SOCCER

• Cougars win in Hilo: The Diamond Head Cougars defeated Mililani, 4-1, to capture the Volcano International girls 12-under Soccer Tournament held July 17-20 at Hilo.

The Cougars finished the tournament with a 6-0 record.

• Soccer camp: Honolulu's Stephen Carlson was selected as one of 36 players named to the ESP Camp all-star squads out of 150 players invited to the camp held at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. Carlson plays for the HSC Bulls '85.

Miami's Danny Vazquez and Colorado Springs' Conrad Taylor were named the Most Valuable Player and Goalkeeper, respectively.
