Dwyer ousted in match-play tourney

Kailua's Bridget Dwyer won her second-round match, but fell in the third round of the 73rd annual Women's Trans National Golf Championship yesterday at Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M.

She eased past Florida's Seema Sadekar, 4 and 3, in the morning. In the afternoon, she was routed by Sophia Sheridan of Mexico, 7 and 5.

Perez tied for second: Honolulu's Ryan Perez is in a six-way tie for second at even-par 72 after the first round of the Optimist International Golf Tournament at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Three golfers are in the lead after firing 70s yesterday in the boys 16 to 18 age division.



TENNIS

Kailua Men's Night Doubles: No. 2 Ikaika Jobe and Bradley Lum-Tucker beat No. 8 Channon Alcon and Dennis Lajola, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2, last night to advance to the semifinals of the Kailua Racquet Club Men's Night Doubles.

In another quarterfinal match last night, No. 3 Ryan Ideta and Erik Sandblom beat No. 5 Mika Maata and Matey Pampulov, 6-2, 6-2.

The two teams will meet in the first semifinal tonight at 6.

No. 6 Chris Ma and Malino Oda will play No. 7 Michael Bruggeman and Erich Chen in the other semifinal at 7:15.



BASKETBALL

HPU signs Yugoslavian: The Hawai'i Pacific men's basketball team signed Drazen Minic, a 6-foot-10 transfer from San Jacinto College in Texas, for the upcoming season.

Minic, of Belgrade, Yugoslavia, helped his team to a runner-up finish in the national junior college championship.
