Catch of the day

Advertiser Staff

Travis Yoshimoto displays a 10-pound channel catfish he caught on a family trip to Nu'uanu Reservoir. The 10-year-old from Kahaluu caught the big one about 30 minutes before his allotted fishing time was up. He also brought in two other catfish, both in the 1- to 2-pound range. "We don't go fishing a whole lot," says Travis' father, Russell Yoshimoto. "Most of the time we come out dry, but this time we got lucky. No secret thing about it, we just got lucky." Travis took several minutes to bring in the big catfish, with just a bit of aid from his father. "I just helped him from going in the water. It fought really hard. (Travis) is really proud of it." Travis' catch also helped out the other members of the family, who weren't having as much luck, rounding out their limits, Russell said.
