'Aiea advances to Junior regionals

Derek Grace's hit drove in Keoni Lum with the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning as 'Aiea defeated Lake Oswego, Ore., 4-3, Thursday in the championship game of the Little League Junior (ages 13-14) Division 1 Tournament at Vancouver, Wash.

Grace, Tripper Chung and Casey Yara each had two hits for 'Aiea.

Robert Cuizon was the winning pitcher for 'Aiea, which advances to the Western Regionals in Union City, Calif., starting today.

Hilo spanks Nevada: Jeremy Crivello hit a grand slam and a solo home run to lead Hilo past Nevada, 6-0, at the Cal Ripken 12-under Pacific Southwest Regional at San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Aisha Sueda and Michael Kenui combined for the shutout.

Kailua eliminated: Seattle defeated Kailua, 3-0, yesterday to eliminate the Hawai'i team from the USABA 15-Under World Series in Minden, Nev.

Twin City of Fresno, Calif., defeated Kailua, 9-3, Thursday in a championship round opener. Kamalu Blaisdell had two hits and Daren Takasaki drove in two runs for Kailua.

The score was 3-3 and Kailua was threatening early in the game with two on and no outs when heavy rain halted the game. When it resumed three hours later, Twin City escaped unscathed and shut out Kailua the rest of the way.

YOUTH SOFTBALL

'Aiea ousted: The 'Aiea Golden Eagles lost two games Thursday and were eliminated from the championship round of the Amateur Softball Association 12-Under National Championships in Marietta, Ga.

Northern California beat 'Aiea, 12-1, and East Cobb (Ga.) beat 'Aiea, 7-4.

Lianne Lariosa had two hits and three RBIs, and Sasha Andrade-Mann had two hits for 'Aiea.

Lokahi takes two: Sheridan Mahelona struck out 23 in two games to lead Kane'ohe's Lokahi to 6-1 wins over two California teams yesterday in pool play at the Amateur Softball Association 10-Under National Championship Western Regional at Manteca, Calif.

Mahelona had 12 strikeouts against the Manteca Waves and 11 against Strike Zone.

'Ewa Beach still unbeaten: 'Ewa Beach won its first three games at the Amateur Softball Association 12-Under National Championship Western Regional in Stockton, Calif.

'Ewa Beach beat Delta of Southern California, 7-1, on Thursday, then beat Blue Angels of San Francisco, 14-5, and Breeze of Southern California, 5-2, yesterday.

Kapolei has lost once in the tournament while Mililani was ousted in the double-elimination invitational that began with 39 teams.

YOUTH GOLF

Shigezawa, Sawada place high: Bradley Shigezawa of Honolulu placed fourth and Kristen Sawada of Mililani finished in a tie for fifth in their respective divisions at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., on Monday.

Shigezawa shot 217 in the Boys' 10-11 division. Konlawat Krobteeranon of Thailand won with 211.

Sawada shot 241 in the Girls' 10-11 division. Lisa McCloskey of Texas won with 215.
