Our tourism expertise is a valuable export
It is often argued that tourism is a vibrant "export" industry that is rarely recognized as such.
Hawai'i, of course, is a major player in this export market.
But we also export tourism in a more traditional sense, sending what we have to offer overseas.
A classic example of this emerged last week with news that two Honolulu companies are in negotiations with Vietnam to plan, design and build a tourist resort in that country. The two firms are Pacific Management Resources, a consulting company, and Group 70 International, an architectural company well known in Asia and the Pacific for its expertise in resort development.
They know that Hawai'i has developed expertise in the entire spectrum of travel, leisure and tourism, from building resorts to making sure that visitors have an experience they will remember.
