• HARLAN B.L. CADINHA has been promoted to chief investment officer of the investment counseling firm, Cadinha & Co. He joined the firm in 1995 as a portfolio manager and also provided securities research and assisted in administration of the firm's investment procedures. The firm was founded by his father, Harlan J. Cadinha, in 1979.

• PAUL BROWN, a recognized operator of beauty salons and spas in Hawai'i for more than 30 years, has been named to the board of directors of the over 25,000-member trade advocacy group, the International Chain Salon Association (ICSA). The organization, headquartered in California, represents hair salons and spas in North America, Europe and Asia. Brown currently operates salon/day spas at Ward Centre and the Big Island's Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, and salons in Kailua and Waikele, with the Spa Olakino Salon slated to open in late fall at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort. He is exploring Maui possibilities.

• Norwegian Cruise Line is opening a Honolulu office next month, in anticipation of local expansion which, by 2006, will see one third of the Miami-based company's fleet Island-based. The new office will be headed by Robert Kritzman, currently the company's senior vice president and general counsel in Miami. By as early as next year, the company foresees having four NCL ships serving the Hawai'i market, including two new U.S.-flagged ships i Pride of America and Pride of Aloha — sailing interisland year-round under the NCL America brand. Also in their fleet will be the two foreign-flagged ships offering Hawai'i/Fanning Island itineraries i the Norwegian Wind, sailing year-round, and the Norwegian Star (redeployed to Seattle after April, 2004, for Alaska cruises).

Also named to the new Honolulu office is former local American Classic Voyages executive William "Bill" Anonsen, a veteran of more than 30 years in Hawai'i's maritime industry. Most recently, as state Department of Transportation maritime operations specialist, he oversaw development of the cruise ship terminals and infrastructure improvements, and developed statewide port security measures after Sept. 11.

Also hired was another former American Classic Voyages employee, LEI FOUNTAIN, as NCL director of Hawaii'i land operations, and DALE CHIKUAMI HAHN, a former chief operating officer of Pearl City Nursing Home and Oahu Care Facility, as director of NCL-Hawai'i's human resources and administration.

• With an expansion that now includes 36 Starbucks Coffee stores in Hawai'i, and the opening of the 14th Jamba Juice outlet in Kona July 24, parent company Coffee Partners has announced promotions to fill two newly-created positions: JUNE PLAIN, promoted from human resources administrator to human resources and training manager, overseeing training of all employees at both chains; and CORINNE SHIROMA, formerly Starbucks Mililani store manager, promoted to recruiter, overseeing hiring of employees and working with job fairs.

JAN RUMI, business advisory services manager of the local office of accounting firm Grant Thornton, has been named the 78th president of the Lions Club of Honolulu. The chapter, chartered in 1926, is the mother club of District 50's 64 island Lion Clubs, with 1,853 members. The organization provides community, state and international humanitarian services, and is the largest service club organization in the world.

ABID BUTT has been named the new managing director of the North Shore Turtle Bay Resort, as it repositions itself in the industry following completion of a $60 million renovation. Butt is a 20-year veteran of domestic and international resort hotel management, including with Sheraton hotels and Banyan Tree Resorts.

Also named at the resort are JOHN RUST, director of sales; KIM SILVAGGIO, national sales manager; henry lacar — a former assistant director of property operations at Turtle Bay, and later, director at Ihilani Resort and Spa — back at Turtle Bay as director of property operations; and Rob Dalzell, chef de cuisine.

• PacificBasin Communications has named DONNA KODAMA-YEE, former advertising director of Hawaii Business Magazine, as advertising director of Honolulu Magazine. Kodama-Yee has also held other positions in the PacificBasin family of publications, including associate publisher of Pacific Magazine, and director of advertising for Hawaii Business Magazine.
