THE LEFT LANE
Oceanic list expands

Advertiser Staff

Just when you think you've got your favorite TV channel numbers committed to memory, Oceanic Time Warner has announced the launching — starting Sept. 3 — of a lineup that will include some new channels.

A few channels already have been added — Hallmark, National Network, Answers on Demand, TV on Demand, Kidswork, Brainworks, Bodyworks and PBS Kids. The Outdoor Life Network will debut Dec. 1.

The list of digital and analog station numbers has been mailed to Oceanic subscribers with the monthly billing, so watch for the rosters and keep them handy for your channel surfing.

Send in the clowners

Deena Frooman of Manoa is running away to join the circus.

Frooman leaves for Denmark today, her 40th birthday, to meet with a humanitarian group of volunteer circus performers called Cyclown Circus.

The nonprofit group's mission is to combine arts and activism, and they will visit Red Cross refugee camps, community centers and shelters in countries throughout eastern Europe that need laughter and joy, Frooman said.

Frooman, a stage hand and juggler, will be among 20 international performers, including acrobats, trapeze artists and stilt walkers.

Frooman said she hopes her experience will inspire women to get involved in humanitarian efforts to find satisfaction in their lives.

Oft to see the 'Wizard'

The yellow brick road has been expanded again at Diamond Head Theatre, with additional playdates of the stage musical, "The Wizard of Oz."

Just added to the earlier extension: performances at 6 p.m. Aug. 16 and 4 p.m. Aug. 17. Clearly, the matinees are aimed at family audiences eager to explore the journey of Dorothy and her encounters with the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow.

Attend the show as one of these characters and earn a free "treat" at the box office.

Seats may remain for the other matinees and performances. Call 733-0274.
