Faye Watanabe Kurren, the former president of Tesoro Hawaii Corp., will take over as president and CEO for Hawaii Dental Service, the state's largest dental insurance organization, on Sept. 3.
Kurren, 52, replaces Jonathan Won, 60, who had led HDS since August 2000. Jay Kanegawa, chairman of HDS, praised Kurren's "local leadership experience."
Kurren, a Punahou School and Stanford University graduate, joined Pacific Resources Inc., as legal counsel in 1984. PRI later became BHP Hawaii and then Tesoro.
Chevron assets here unaffected
ChevronTexaco Corp. yesterday said a plan to sell $6 billion in assets won't affect the oil company's Hawai'i operations.
On Friday, the company said it would dispose of lagging fields, refineries and half its company-operated U.S. gas stations to streamline the company and boost returns. The sales won't affect ChevronTexaco's Campbell Industrial Park refinery or any stations in the state, said ChevronTexaco spokes-man Albert Chee.
