BUSINESS BRIEFS
Maui gas prices hit record high

Advertiser Staff

Gasoline prices in Wailuku, Maui, hit another high yesterday, with regular unleaded costing $2.324 per gallon on average.

A year ago, regular unleaded gas averaged $1.919 per gallon in Wailuku, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

The statewide average price for unleaded has held relatively steady since May 23, when regular gasoline reached a record $2.067 a gallon.

Meanwhile, U.S. retail gasoline rose 2 cents to an average of $1.536 a gallon, the highest in more than three months, as recent refinery shutdowns drove up Midwest prices, the U.S. Energy Department said.

The nationwide average for regular-grade gasoline, for the week ended yesterday, was the highest since $1.557 in the week ended April 28, the department said.
