Only 60 players were able to start their second round at the 6,368-yard Philadelphia Country Club course in Gladwyne, Pa., yesterday before play was suspended by thunderstorms around 1 p.m. EST. Play was suspended for the day around 4:30 when it was determined that the course was unplayable.
The second round is scheduled to resume today, with the top 64 advancing to match play.
Three golfers from California Irene Cho, of La Habra, Sarah Huarte, of Shingle Springs, and Jane Park, of Oak Valley all had 2-under 69s to share the lead after the first round.
Wie shot a 73 Monday to lead three others from Hawai'i Kailua's Bridget Dwyer (75, tie for 28th), Wailuku's Shayna Miyajima (76, tie for 42nd) and Makawao's Lisa Kajihara (79, tie for 82nd).
The Women's Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted by the U.S. Golf Association, with 10 strictly for amateurs.
Wie, 13, became the youngest golfer to win a USGA title for adults when she captured the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship in June.
