Assault charges filed in raid

Police yesterday charged Solomona “Solo” Nakagawa, 29, of Waikele and Robert Holi Kaialau III, 33, of NÅnÅkuli with multiple counts of felony assault in connection with an alleged attack July 30 on two men guarding a gaming room at 1334 Young St.

Nakagawa is charged with four of seven total counts of second-degree assault filed against the two men. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. Kaialau’s bail is $75,000.

According to a police affidavit filed at District Court, Nakagawa allegedly stabbed one of the guards numerous times and threw hot water on him. The man was treated at The Queen’s Medical Center for a broken nose, bruised ribs and several cuts.

Kaialau, who was wearing a ski mask, allegedly pulled the other guard off a ladder and threw him to the ground. The man was struck with an aluminum bat on his neck, ribs and back, according to the police report. Kaialau then allegedly threw a microwave oven onto the man’s head, knocking him unconscious. The guard was treated for fractured ribs and a bruised spinal column at Queen’s.

Police said the two suspects, who were both wearing dark blue T-shirts with the letters “HPD” and “POLICE” stenciled on the front and back, were helped by about 20 other men in an assault on the gambling house, which police believe was ordered by a rival group.
