Hilo baseball teams reach World Series

Myles Ioane, Kyle Correia and Matt Haasenritter each paired hits, including a double apiece, as Hilo defeated San Jose, 10-2, in the championship game of the Little League Seniors (ages 14-16) Western Regional in Lemoore, Calif.
Hilo will represent the West at the World Series in Bangor, Maine, and will face the South in pool play on Aug. 10.
Ioane pitched a seven-hitter and struck out seven yesterday.

Cal Ripken 11-12: Hilo defeated Northern California, 9-2, yesterday in the championship game of the Cal Ripken Majors Pacific Southwest Regionals at San Luis Obispo, Calif. Jeremy Crivello pitched a three-hitter, striking out 12, and was named the tournament's MVP. Also named to the all-tournament team were Aaron Soong, Kolton Wong and Jaycen Ferreira.
Hilo will represent the Pacific Southwest in the eight-team Cal Ripken World Series, Aug. 16-24, at Aberdeen, Md.
YOUTH BASKETBALL
Kalakaua captures title: The Kalakaua Wahine beat the Las Vegas Lady Knights, 47-38, to win their third consecutive Las Vegas Summer Classic title (ages 14-15) last weekend. The Wahine went undefeated in the four-day tournament, and outscored their opponents 271 to 160 in six games.
The team, coached by Dennis Agena, was composed of: Lei Asato, Keilyn Fujioka, Jodi Kamemoto, Yoon-Ji Kim, Tatriana Lorenzo, Sophie Merrifield, Hennasea Tokumura, Dara Tompkison, Lauren Tompkison, Sarah Turgeon and Alana Wall.
SWIMMING
Race honors Kahanamoku: Duke's One Mile Ocean Swim will be held Aug. 24, starting at 9 a.m. at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The event is part of the Duke Kahanamoku Ho'olaule'a festivities.
Participants will swim in groups of 250 around a triangular course that begins and ends on the left side of the pier fronting the Hilton.
The top three finishers will receive prizes.
