3 win science fair awards
Three Kamehameha Schools seniors received Senior Research Awards from The Cancer Research Center of Hawai'i at the Hawai'i State Science Engineering Fair. The winners are: Jill S. Harunaga, first-place award; Amanda M. Garcia, second-place award; and Kristen K. Ponce, third-place award.
Hawaii Opera officers picked
Hawaii Opera Theatre announced its new officers for 2003-04: President James H. McCoy, retired U.S. Navy captain; vice presidents Kristen Chan, accountant and business evaluator; Suzanne B. Engel, community volunteer; Hugh N. Hazenfield, ENT physician; Evelyn B. Lance, retired family court judge; Laurence B. Lueck, president of Magnetic Media Information; Richard C. Palma, retired from Bank of Hawaii; Jean E. Rolles, vice president of Outrigger Hotels & Resorts; and David Takagi, insurance broker with Takagi & Takagi; treasurer Tom Huber, retired attorney of First Hawaiian Bank; secretary Lee Alden Johnson, Realtor with RE/MAX Honolulu; co-counsel Robert B. Bunn, attorney with Cades Schutte Fleming & Wright; and Robert S. Katz, attorney with Torkildson Katz Fonseca Jaffe Moore & Hetherington.
Newly elected board members for 2003-06 include: Tyrie Lee Jenkins, Flora R. Kawasjee, Nadine Little, and Gregory E. Ratte. Members for 2003-05 are Julia Cherry and Lawrence D. Rodriguez.
Board members recognized
Hawaii Opera Theatre also honored past and present board members with the inaugural Mary Pfeiffer Volunteer Recognition Awards. The four recipients are: Marian Vaught and Rhoda Hackler, longtime board members; founding board member Robert B. Bunn; and Tom Huber, treasurer of the board.
The award was established in honor of longtime HOT board member, volunteer and supporter Mary Pfeiffer, who died in 2002.
