Waimea's Dizon headed to Colorado

By Stacy Kaneshiro

Last season's Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation Offensive Player of the Year is taking his game to new heights.

Waimea High senior Jordon Dizon said he has verbally committed to play at the University of Colorado. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound running back rushed for 1,246 yards and 17 touchdowns last season in leading the Menehune to the state semifinals. He also rushed for 370 yards and five touchdowns in a game against Kapa'a last season.

"It's kind of early, but it takes some stress off me," Dizon said of his commitment.

This is one of the earliest commitments by a Hawai'i football player. Most recruits here make commitments in December through the signing period in February.

Dizon attended a football camp at Colorado last month. He also attended the camp before his junior season.

He said Buffaloes assistant head coach Brian Cabral, a Saint Louis School alumnus, has been following his progress since his sophomore year.

Dizon said he likes Boulder, the city where the campus is situated. The city's altitude is listed at 5,430 feet.

"The environment is great for me," he said.

Dizon has been timed at 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash at one of the recent combines held on O'ahu.

In other recruiting matters, McKinley all-state defensive lineman Randy Faletoi said he has been offered a scholarship by USC. Faletoi, a starter on the varsity since his freshman year, has yet to make a verbal commitment.
