AFTER DEADLINE

Readers turn to their daily newspapers for a lot of information.

They look for the top news of the day from around the world and here at home. But they also want to know about community events — the meeting being held in their neighborhood, the free concert in Waikiki.

The listings we run are items and events that are of general interest. Priority is given to low-cost or free events. Ongoing events are listed when space is available. All material must be submitted in writing, not handwritten, with a contact name and phone number.

Use this mailing address, to the attention of the appropriate section for all listings: The Honolulu Advertiser, P.O. Box 3110, Honolulu, HI 96802. You can also drop off items at our front counter at 605 Kap'iolani Blvd.

• In the Hawai'i section:

Community Calendar: Meetings and community events.

Project Kokua: Community organizations and projects seeking volunteer help.

• In the Business section:

Coming Events: Company and industry meetings and events. Items should be submitted two weeks before the event.

Trade Winds: Promotion and new-job announcements.

• In TGIF:

TGIF calendar: runs in the Friday TGIF section. Lists events that are entertainment- or pastime-related. We need all details — name of event, time, date, place, admission fee if any, phone number we can publish, age limits if any — in writing 10 working days before publication of the item. The items of only that specific week (Friday through Thursday) will be listed. So if an event is happening on Saturday, it would be listed Friday.

We would also like photos, if possible. If sent via e-mail, these are the specifications that work best for us: images that are least four inches wide, at least 300 dpi, jpg format, color. With caption information, please.

• In the Taste section:

• In the Island Life section:

Tryouts Calendar: Includes stage, dance, music auditions; beauty pageant competitions. Runs Thursdays, the deadline is the previous Friday.

Home & Garden Calendar: Runs on Fridays; deadline is the prior Friday. Free or low-cost events of general interest to home owners and gardeners.

Health Calendar: Runs Saturdays; deadline is the prior Saturday. Free or low-cost health events of general interest and open to public.

Lit Beat Calendar: Lists literary events, readings, book signings. Runs Sundays in the Island Life section; deadline is the prior Tuesday.

Art Calendar: Includes exhibitions, calls to artists, classes, demonstrations, special events. Runs Sundays in the Island Life section; deadline is the prior Wednesday.
