‘Ewa Beach fire destroys homeFour people were left homeless today by a fire that gutted a home at 91-1183 Ka‘uiki St. in ‘Ewa Beach. Cause of the 8:06 a.m. fire is under investigation, said fire department spokesman Capt. Kenison Tejada.
The Red Cross was assisting two men and two women who were displaced by the fire.
A neighbor who tried to fight the fire with a garden hose before firefighters arrived was treated for smoke inhalation.
The fire was reported under control at 8:23 a.m. and extinguished at 8:54 a.m.
Stolen cash handed over
Most of the money from a fanny pack containing several thousand dollars that was stolen from a restroom July 10 in LÅ‘ie was turned in to police Friday, Detective Linda Blagrave said.
The suspect, a delivery man, handed over 85 percent of the money to police. The man was questioned but not arrested, Blagrave said.
Good Samaritan was Mililani man
The medical examiner’s office identified a man killed early Saturday morning while helping another motorist on the H-1 Freeway westbound near the Waimalu on ramp as Keith T.P. Yamamoto, 28, of Mililani.
Police said Yamamoto had gotten out of his car to help a stranded motorist change a flat tire when he was struck by a car driven by a 17-year-old boy.
Wahiawa man faces sex charge
A 36-year-old Wahiawa man was charged Saturday in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a 5-year-old girl at her Pearl City home. Alton Roberson III is charged with first-degree sex assault and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Roberson, an acquaintance of the victim’s family, is accused of attacking the girl on July 27 while she was asleep. Police said the assault was witnessed by a juvenile family member.
Man, 38, held in restaurant heist
Robbery charges are pending against a 38-year-old man suspected of being the masked gunman who held up John Dominis restaurant early yesterday morning.
A man wearing a Halloween mask and carrying a handgun confronted a bartender at the restaurant at 1:59 a.m. He fled on foot with a bank bag containing cash. Police found the suspect hiding in a nearby storage shed.
Stricken man flown to Queen’s
The Coast Guard today picked up a 45-year-old man complaining of chest pains and suffering from a possible seizure aboard a charter fishing boat 19 miles off Kewalo Basin and flew him to The Queen’s Medical Center. A helicopter responded to the 9:47 a.m. call for help and brought the man to Queen’s shortly before 11 a.m.
