JUST MY STYLE
Captain particular about his clothes

By Paula Rath
Advertiser Staff Writer

Kissinger is wearing a Bardelli viscose shirt, Bernini wool pants and wingtips from Nordstrom Rack. That's his favorite accessory, his Ferrari.

Deborah Booker • The Honolulu Advertiser

Name: Gary Kissinger

Age: 48.

Occupation: Captain, Hawaiian Airlines and lead guitar player for Touch of Gold, a Motown band.

Do you shop for your own clothes?: Yes. I don't like it when other people choose things for me. I'm too particular.

The best bargain I ever found: Shoes at Nordstrom Rack — black and white wingtips (worn in the picture).

I'm willing to pay more for top-quality when it comes to: "Comfortable shoes and a nicely fitted jacket."

My favorite designers are: Canali and Bardelli, both from Bernini.

My favorite places to shop are: Bernini in Ala Moana, Linea in Ward Warehouse, Nordstrom Rack, the Polo store and Banana Republic.

What I like to wear on a movie and dinner date: "Quality medium-weight, wool-blend slacks, because I appreciate the way they hang. A button-down-collared vibrant-patterned shirt, but the cut has to be right — fitted, not boxy — shoulder fit is crucial. A stylish slip-on shoe or something outrageous like Diesel green square-toed "bowling shoes." I also like a good knit shirt on a movie date — form-fitting and without a collar. Women like texture and it transmits a degree of warmth."

What I like to wear on a casual date: "I'm a tank-top kind of guy. I wear 'em with shorts and rubber slippers. But not all tank tops are created equal. Some will flatter you, while others will make you look loose and boxy. The best tank top I've found is made by Maxmuscle, and I found it at a workout store in Long Beach, but you can get them online too. It'll accent your lats as well as your shoulders."

What's hot in your closet now? "For the Bishop Street crowd, Tori Richards makes the finest patterns of aloha shirts."

My biggest fashion faux pas was: "Realizing when I got to a party that my slacks were too short."
