How Hawai'i hotels are faring

Strong performance toward the end of the week lifted Maui and Kaua'i occupancy to 90.3 percent and 90.1 percent, respectively, for the week ended Aug. 9, according to Hospitality Advisors LLC. Kaua'i also showed a 4.9 percent increase in average room rate to $174.55. Statewide hotel occupancy rose by 6.7 percent to 86.0 percent, which was the strongest weekly occupancy recorded since the survey began in September 2001. Statewide room rates fell by 3.8 percent.
