The trial for an O'ahu man accused of fatally shooting one of the police officers who had gone to arrest him at Kapolei Shopping Center on March 4 has been pushed back from Oct. 27 to Dec. 3.
Circuit Judge Karen Ahn granted the request for the delay after state Deputy Public Defender Debra Loy said she needed more time to prepare for the trial of Shane Mark, 28, who was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of police officer Glen Gaspar, 40.
Gaspar was one of a group of police officers who had gone to Kapolei to arrest Mark in connection with an unrelated shooting in 'Aiea on Feb. 1.
Loy yesterday also asked for a court order requiring the Honolulu Police Department to provide her with all of the reports from an internal affairs investigation into the shooting.
Ahn said she will conduct a confidential review of the documents and may turn some of them over to Loy and city Deputy Prosecutor Chris Van Marter if they do not duplicate other information that has been provided to the prosecution and the defense.
