Triathlon to benefit athletes with physical disabilities on Sunday
Advertiser Staff
A total of 27 athletes are scheduled to compete in the second annual Ironman Revisited triathlon on Sunday at San Souci Beach.
The 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run replicates the original Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon held on O'ahu from 1978-80 before moving to the Big Island in 1981.
The triathlon will start at 7 a.m. and finish at San Souci Beach.
Money raised from the event will benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation, an organization that gives grants to athletes with physical disabilities.
Some money will be awarded to O'ahu resident Mike Nishimoto, who was partially paralyzed last January while training for the Ironman New Zealand.
Dave Scott, the 1980 winner, will compete in the event.
Donations and entries are still being accepted. Information: www.challengedathletes.org or Tabi King (858) 775-2573.
