Hilo is Senior League World Series champions

Hilo beat Chesterfield, Va., 16-8, today to win the Little League’s Senior League World Series for 14- to 16-year-olds in Bangor, Maine.

After Hilo took a 5-0 lead in the first inning, Chesterfield rallied to take the lead with three runs in the first and three runs in the second. But Hilo came back with three runs in the top of the third and added four more in the fourth to take a 12-6 lead.

Hilo pounded 16 hits in the victory.

Hilo won the West regional to reach the series. After going 3-1 in pool play, Hilo beat Williamstad, Curacao, 3-2, in the semifinals yesterday. Hilo’s only loss in the series was to Chesterfield on the first day of the tournament.

Other teams in the tournament were from Alberta, Canada; Moscow, Russia; Orono, Maine; Guam; Urbandale, Iowa; South Vineland, N.J. and Brenham, Texas.
