Wie misses cut in Jamie Farr Classic

Advertiser Staff and News Services

SYLVANIA, Ohio — Ho-nolulu's Michelle Wie was one shot better yesterday than Thursday.

But that still was not good enough for the 13-year-old Punahou freshman in the LPGA's Jamie Farr Kroger Classic.

Wie shot a 1-over 72 yesterday for a two-round total of 3-over 145 and missed the 36-hole cutoff score of 143 on the 6,408-yard Highland Meadows Golf Club.

"By this time, I just want to go home," the 13-year-old said. She still has to play in a Canadian Tour event next week in Brimley, Mich.

Laura Diaz, the first-round leader at 65, shot a 67 yesterday. She is at 10-under-par 132 and has a three-shot lead over Hee-Won Han, who shot a 67—135.

Nicole Jeray (68), Kelli Kuehne (68) and Se Ri Pak (67) are at 136, four shots back of Diaz.

Wie bogeyed the par-4 first hole. After 11 consecutive pars, she birdied the par-3 13th.

Wie's round came apart on No. 17, a par 5 that's one of the longest holes on the course.

She drove her tee shot into the rough on the left side of the fairway and pushed her second shot way right and across a cart path, sending spectators scrambling.

That shot left her directly in the path of four trees.

"What should we do?" she asked BJ Wie, her father and caddie.

She flicked the ball back onto the fairway and tossed her club aside in frustration. She ended up with a bogey that took away any chance of making the cut.

"I gave it away," she said afterward. "Some days it goes in, some days it doesn't."
