Soldiers and helicopters from Schofield Barracks will conduct air assault training Tuesday and Wednesday at '?lio Point on Moloka'i.

Participants in the exercise will be soldiers from the 2nd Battalion of the 25th Aviation Regiment and 1st Battalion of the 21st Infantry Regiment, along with five Blackhawk and two Chinook helicopters.

The operation will start no earlier than 5 p.m. and should end by 9:30 p.m. both days, an Army news release said. The training is to prepare troops for next month's Lightning Thrust Warrior exercise and for deployment to Afghanistan next year.

Web program wins award

NEARstar, a Web-based early reading curriculum for English language, has received an Education Software Review Award.

The awards, also known as EDDIEs, recognize innovative and content-rich programs and Web sites that provide technology tools to foster educational excellence. NEARstar was developed by Pacific Resources for Education and Learning, a Hawai'i-based nonprofit, through a grant from the federally financed Star Schools Program. Twenty-three schools on O'ahu, Maui, Moloka'i and the Big Island are participating in the early phases of the project.
