Students helped advise editors

Whether it was Internet censorship at public libraries, freedom of speech for high-school students, ways to diversify tourism or drug testing, our summer "youth" citizen editorial board had plenty to talk about.

This group, either in high school or recently graduated, spent part of the summer helping The Advertiser hone its editorial thinking on a variety of topics.

Among those who participated were:

• Aislinn Hernandez, who is entering her senior year at Sacred Hearts Academy.

• Kia Toomata, who just graduated from Kailua High School (not pictured).

• Christopher Verleye, a graduate of Mililani High School and an ACLU-Hawai'i intern.

• Amanda Finn, who recently graduated from Kalaheo High School and is beginning her freshman year at Hawai'i Pacific University. Her brother, Jason Finn (not pictured), is beginning his junior year at Kalaheo.

• Jonathan Dang, a Saint Louis School graduate who will attend attend Hampshire College in the fall.

• Tanya Rivera, who is going into her senior year at Waipahu High School and is co-editor of the school newspaper, The Cane Tassel.

• Teal Takayama, who will be a school newspaper editor at St. Andrew's Priory this year.
