Teen saved off Ma'ili Beach
A teenager was in critical condition at St. Francis Medical Center-West yesterday after a near drowning off Ma'ili Beach Park, authorities said.
The boy, who is about 15 years old, had been diving off rocks before he lost consciousness. His friends pulled him out of the water and called 911 shortly before 3 p.m.
The boy had no pulse and was not breathing when paramedics arrived, said Jason Kaneshiro, a district chief for Emergency Medical Services.
The paramedics revived the boy and took him to St. Francis in critical condition.

Bus plan on board agenda
The public is invited to attend a Diamond Head/Kapahulu/St. Louis Heights Neighborhood Board meeting on Wednesday to discuss the in-town Bus Rapid Transit plan.
The McCully/Mo'ili'ili, Makiki and Ala Moana/Kaka'ako neighborhood boards will also participate in the discussion at 7 p.m. on the second floor of the Ala Wai Golf Course Clubhouse.
Arts group raises $12,800
The Hawai'i Alliance for Arts Education raised more than $12,800 from the sale of ARTS license plates, which were created by Clarence Lee Design. The money has been used to support Hawai'i schools with outstanding programs in arts education.
Recipients for 2003 include Hanahau'oli School, Hanalei School on Kaua'i and Waiahole Elementary School.
