Lourens wins Ironman Revisited

Deon Lourens of San Diego finished first in the Ironman Revisited Triathlon in Honolulu yesterday.

Lourens covered the course that started and finished in Waikiki in 9 hours, 43 minutes.

The event, composed of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run, raised $60,000 for the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

Doug Smith of O'ahu finished second in 11:38, followed by Chris Kostman of Los Angeles in 13:02 and Shoko Koyama of O'ahu — the first female finisher — in 13:14.

A total of 25 athletes competed, including a relay team of Rudy Garcia-Tolson of Bloomington, Calif., Dave Scott of Boulder, Colo., and Willlie Stewart of Redlands, Calif. They completed the course in 9:41.


YOUTH BASEBALL

• Hilo rolls to opening win: Jeremy Crivello pitched a one-hitter as Hilo defeated Sylvan Hill, Ark.,

11-1, yesterday in the Cal Ripken Majors (ages 11-12) World Series at Aberdeen, Md.

Crivello also hit a triple in a game that was shortened to four innings.

Hilo (1-0) advances to play West Linn, Ore., tomorrow.

MEETING

• QB Club today: Former University of Hawai'i football player Larry Goeas will speak at today's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club at the Pagoda Hotel ballroom.

Also scheduled to speak are Olomana Golf Development Center instructor Casey Nakama and 'Ahahui Koa Anuenue executive director Vince Baldemor.

Kimberly Wang, CEO of the Hawaiian Islanders arena2 football team, will be honored as the female Sportsperson for July.

Lunch — $7.50 for club members, $8 for non-members — starts at 11:30 a.m. The program will follow at noon.
