Mortgage lender to give refunds

More than 2,500 Hawai'i residents are eligible for part of a $2.1 million settlement with mortgage lender Household International over alleged deceptive and unfair lending practices. Hawai'i borrowers will be notified by mail of refunds of loan fees and finance charges.

Consumers who obtained mortgage loans from Household International, which operated as Household Finance and Beneficial Corp., from January 1999 through September 2002 are eligible.

Airline's data on travelers mixed

Hawaiian Airlines carried fewer passengers in July than it did in July 2002, but for longer distances.

Hawaiian said the number of passengers last month was down 5.4 percent to 527,446. However, scheduled revenue passenger miles flown was up 5.6 percent at 561 million. Hawaiian was flying planes 88.3 percent full on average in July, up from 81.6 percent a year ago.


E-mail service disrupted

Customers of Oceanic Time Warner Cable's RoadRunner Internet service yesterday reported intermittent problems receiving e-mail.

Oceanic's Web site warned its high-speed Internet customers to expect problems receiving e-mail because of unspecified "system-related issues." The company also said that customers may have problems accessing or modifying their passwords.
