Kapa'a man injured in crash
LIHU'E, Kaua'i A Kapa'a man was severely injured yesterday when his truck ran into a guardrail that punctured the vehicle's cab.
Police said the 22-year-old victim was in critical condition at Wilcox Hospital after the 5:20 a.m. accident on Kahaku Road in Princeville.
Membership drive launched
HILO, Hawai'i The University of Hawai'i-Hilo Theatre has launched a membership drive for Applause!, a new organization to support the East Hawai'i theater, which brings a yearlong offering of events including plays, musicals, dance performances and Native Hawaiian cultural experiences.
Members will receive discounts on tickets, among other benefits. The organization is offering: student and senior (age 55 and older) membership for $15; individual membership for $25; friends/family membership for $50; supporter membership for $100; director membership for $250 and producer membership for $500. Kailua update on 'ice' today
Kailua will host its third town hall meeting today on the "ice" epidemic, focusing on specific initiatives to be taken by each of seven action groups formed to develop solutions to problems surrounding the use and sale of crystal methamphetamine, or "ice."
The meeting, from 7 to 9 p.m., will be at Kailua District Park and will include a Honolulu Police Department presentation on ice. The meeting is sponsored by Castle Medical Center, Hina Mauka Recovery Center and the Kailua Neighborhood Board. For more information or to get involved, call 262-8021.

Memorial fund honors educator
Academy of the Pacific has set up a memorial fund in honor of the late Tess Peterson, who taught at the private school from 1964 until her retirement in 1994. The Tess Peterson Memorial Fund will assist an outstanding continuing student at the academy each year. Peterson died Sept. 11, 2002, at age 79.
A memorial service will be held at the Jason Mason Young building at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Academy campus. R.S.V.P. to 595-6359.

Town meeting to focus on 'ice'
Residents of Moanalua and Salt Lake are invited to a town meeting Thursday that will focus on law enforcement and community involvement in the communities' growing "ice" epidemic.
The meeting will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Aliamanu Middle School cafeteria.
The meeting, organized by Rep. Glenn Wakai, Sen. Norman Sakamoto and City Councilman Romy Cachola, will feature speakers who will discuss crime trends, the need for incarceration, the value of drug therapy and prevention programs.
