Three teens receive hotel training

Three Moloka'i students gained training and experience thanks to a partnership between two Marc Resorts properties and the Hoikaika Youth Opportunity Program.

The program, financed by the U.S. Department of Labor, was designed to help youths in high-poverty communities become productive, self-sufficient adults. As a result, Marc's Molokai Shores and Ke Nani Kai opened their doors to Moloka'i teens, offering them a chance to receive hands-on training.

Joleen Joao, Jem Miguel and Danelle Espaniola recently completed their training there. Joao and Miguel worked in the front office at Molokai Shores, while Espinda worked in the front office at Ke Nani Kai. All gained knowledge and training in computers, accounting and guest services.

In addition, Joao and Espinda, who will be high school seniors this year, earned experience working in the housekeeping departments.
