Lottery scam back on Big Isle
Big Island police are warning residents about a new telephone scam that targets people by telling them they have won the lottery. Intended victims are told that to claim their prize, they first must send money to an address in Canada. Legitimate lotteries don't require this, police said. Authorities said anyone unsure of whether a telephone solicitation is legitimate can call the state Office of Consumer Protection, the Better Business Bureau or the Federal Trade Commission.

Farrington work to shift to night
Wai'anae Coast commuters will get some relief from roadwork on Farrington Highway in about a week and a half when the Board of Water Supply shifts to night work as it replaces aging pipes in the area.
In the meantime, traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction on the highway from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Yesterday, traffic was backed up from Lualualei Naval Road to past the Hawaiian Electric plant at Kahe Point.
The four-year, $47.5 million project is expected to be completed in 2005.
