Patrick M. Maher, 46, former HPD officer

A memorial service for former Honolulu police officer Patrick M. Maher will be held tomorrow in the Honolulu police station courtyard on Beretania Street.

Patrick M. Maher was shot and killed in Washington state on Aug. 2.
Maher, a seven-year veteran of the Honolulu Police Department, was a member of the Federal Way Police Department in Washington state when he was shot and killed while breaking up a scuffle between two men Aug. 2.

Maher, 46, who joined the Federal Way department seven months ago, was a decorated member of HPD and spent most of his career on assignment in Waikiki. Before joining HPD, Maher spent 20 years with the Coast Guard and retired as a senior special agent in intelligence.

Maher is survived by his wife, Renee, a former Honolulu deputy prosecutor; sons, Nicholas and Nathan; daughter, Amanda; brother, Thomas; and sisters, Teresa, Rita Young and Peggy Maher-Dreher.

The memorial service will begin at 5 p.m. in the courtyard, with a celebration of life at 6:30 p.m. at McCoy Pavilion in Ala Moana Beach Park.
