Moped operator critically injured
A 19-year-old Wahiawa man was critically injured Thursday night in a moped crash at Whitmore Village.
Police said the man was operating a modified 1987 Honda moped at 7:20 p.m. on Kulia Street when he failed to negotiate a bend in the roadway. The moped struck a signpost at the intersection of Kulia and Uakaniko'o streets. The man, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the moped upon impact and suffered multiple injuries, including a fractured skull, police said.
He was taken by helicopter to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.
Police said speed appears to be a factor.
Body retrieved but not identified
Fire rescue specialists in Kahana Valley retrieved a body yesterday morning believed to be that of a man missing since Tuesday.
Fire Capt. Emmit Kane said rescue specialists, who had been searching the Crouching Lion trail for 45-year-old Phillip Milos, found the body at 2:45 p.m. Thursday off an 80-foot ridge at the 1,650-foot level of the trail.
Bad weather delayed recovery, and yesterday the body was taken to the medical examiner, who will identify it. Police do not suspect foul play.
Businessman free after arrest
Police arrested the owner of a business supply company Thursday on suspicion that he made illegal financial donations to Mayor Jeremy Harris' political campaign. Daniel K. Rosario, 41, is suspected of money laundering and other offenses related to making false-name contributions.
He was released without charges pending further investigation. He declined comment yesterday.
