TITANS

  • LAST YEAR: Rebounded from
  • 1-4 start to win 10 of 11 and reach AFC championship game.
  • STRENGTHS: QB with healthy Steve McNair, below right, WR with Drew Bennett improving daily and rookie Tyrone Calico offering big, fast target. DE Jevon Kearse if healthy after two operations on left foot.
  • WEAKNESSES: Jevon Kearse must prove foot is healthy. Secondary. Eddie George must do better than 3.3 yards per carry.
  • Top additions: None
  • Rookies to watch: CB Andre Woolfolk, WR Tyrone Calico, RB Chris Brown, DT Rien Long.
  • Key losses: DT Henry Ford, DT John Thornton, S Rich Coady, WR Kevin Dyson, CB Donald Mitchell, CB Dainon Sidney, LB Randall Godfrey.
  • Goals: Incorporating rookies and keeping George and McNair healthy.

COLTS

  • LAST YEAR: RB Edgerrin James wasn't himself after returning from torn knee ligament. Marvin Harrison had record-setting season without another receiving threat. Colts made playoffs in Tony Dungy's first year but 41-0 playoff loss to Jets exposed weaknesses.
  • STRENGTHS: RB, QB, DL and Harrison at WR.
  • WEAKNESSES: LB, secondary, a complement for Harrison.
  • Top additions: K Brett Conway, WR Brandon Stokley, S Rich Coady, DT Montae Reagor.
  • Rookies to watch: TE Dallas Clark, S Mike Doss.
  • Key losses: WR Qadry Ismail, LB Mike Peterson, FB Jim Finn, DE Chukie Nwokorie.
  • Goals: James should be 100 percent after 2001 knee injury. LB David Thornton must replace Mike Peterson. Dallas Clark needed to complement passing attack.

JAGUARS

  • LAST YEAR: Third straight losing season led to firing of Tom Coughlin, who was replaced by first-year head coach Jack Del Rio.
  • STRENGTHS: RB Fred Taylor ran for 1,314 yards. P Chris Hanson (44.2 yard average) was team's only Pro Bowl representative.
  • WEAKNESSES: Still looking for WR to play opposite Jimmy Smith; J.J. Stokes is top candidate. Team speed on defense.
  • Top additions: Head coach Jack Del Rio, DE Hugh Douglas, LB Mike Peterson, LB Keith Mitchell, Stokes, WR Donald Hayes, KR Jermaine Lewis, TE Johnny Mitchell.
  • Rookies to watch: QB Byron Leftwich, CB Rashean Mathis.
  • Key losses: G Zach Wiegert, WR Bobby Shaw, C John Wade, WR Patrick Johnson, FB Stacey Mack.
  • Goals: Del Rio is following franchise's only coach, Coughlin. Douglas and Peterson must revive defense. Leftwich must worry about second-stringer David Garrard before pushing starter Mark Brunell.

TEXANS

  • LAST YEAR: High point was 19-10 win over Dallas in first game as franchise. Offense was worst in NFL and rookie QB David Carr was sacked NFL-record 76 times.
  • STRENGTHS: Defense has a year of seasoning.
  • WEAKNESSES: OL, with Tony Boselli retiring prematurely because of chronic shoulder problems.
  • Top additions: G Zach Wiegert, OT Greg Randall, LB Charlie Clemons, FB Stacey Mack, LB Patrick Chukwurah.
  • Rookies to watch: WR Andre Johnson, TE Bennie Joppru.
  • Key losses: LB Jeff Posey, OT Ryan Young, WR Jermaine Lewis, LB Keith Mitchell.
  • Goals: Johnson should provide instant spark for 32nd-ranked offense. Team needs to find running back among ex-Bear James Allen and Jonathan Wells. Clemons joins 10 returning defensive starters. Replacing retired Boselli.
