• A number of top local business executives have been named to the board of directors of The Hawaii Business Roundtable, an association of chief executive officers and senior officers of companies with headquarters or a major presence in Hawai'i. Appointed vice-chairman is DONALD G. HORNER, president and chief operating officer of First Hawaiian Bank. Also named as treasurer was DAVID CAREY, president and chief executive officer for Outrigger Enterprises Inc. H. MITCHELL D'OLIER, president and chief executive officer of Kaneohe Ranch and the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation, will continue to serve as chairman of the organization.

New members of the Roundtable are JANICE L. HEAD, president and regional manager, Kaiser Permanente; WARREN K.K. LUKE, chairman and chief executive officer, Hawaii National Bank; DUNCAN MacNAUGHTON, managing partner, The MacNaughton Group; CARL L. SIMONS, president, Hawaiian Cement; ROBERT J. WALKER, president, Castle Medical Center; COLLEEN WONG, interim chief executive officer, The Kamehameha Schools; and PAUL K. YONAMINE, executive vice president and leader, Asia Pacific Region, Bearing Point Inc.

RICHARD OKAZAKI has been named president of Diagnostic Laboratory Services. He began with the company in 1988 as chief financial officer and has served as general manager since 1995. He takes over for Dr. John Edwards, who will be retiring.

• Longtime Outrigger Hotels & Resorts executive KRIS NICKELSEN has been named general manager of the company's newest Hawai'i resort condominium, a Big Island townhome property that marries contemporary Hawaiian plantation design with traditional Island architecture, with such modern amenities as marble countertops, Jacuzzis and vaulted ceilings. In his new position at the newly opened deluxe Outrigger Fairway Villas at Waikoloa Beach Resort, Nickelsen will oversee the rental program, as well as management of the property's homeowners' association. In addition to resort amenities such as infinity edge pool and spa, guests have signing privileges at the nearby Outrigger owned and managed Waikoloa Beach Marriott resort. Nickelsen began his career with Outrigger in 1984 as Outrigger Reef and Reef Towers hotels relief assistant front office manager. Promotions have included Outrigger West hotel manager; general manager of the company's Ala Wai Group and Village Group, of Waikiki properties; general manager of Outrigger Kanaloa, Kona; and most recently, general manager of two Outrigger properties in Australia.

DR. CELIA M. ONA, former associate administrator of clinical services at the Hawai'i State Hospital in Kane'ohe, has been named new medical director of the local, nonprofit behavioral 'Ewa Beach health facility, Kahi Mohala. Dr. Ona specializes in psychiatry, with special interests in clinical psychopharmacology, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and electro-convulsive therapy. She is also president-elect of the Hawaii Psychiatric Medical Association for 2004, maintains privileges at The Queen's Medical Center, and is associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Hawai'i medical school. She replaces Kahi Mohala's interim medical director, Dr. George Makini, who went into full-time private practice.

JOY MIYASAKI, an attorney in the law offices of Shuichi Miyasaki, has been named president of Hawaii Women Lawyers, an organization of women and men working for the advancement of women in the legal profession, and equal opportunities for all. Also named were vice president, LANE HORNFECK, an attorney at Starn O'Toole Marcus & Fisher; and ANNE LOPEZ, secretary. LAUREN SHARKEY will continue to serve as treasurer.

SUMITHRA BALRAJ, an 11-year public relations veteran of various five-star hotels and resorts throughout Malaysia, has been named public-relations manager for the 880-acre Turtle Bay Resort on O'ahu's North Shore. She will oversee public relations initiatives for the hotel's 401 rooms and 42 beach cottages, 36-hole championship golf courses, spa, special events, as well as acting as hotel liaison for community relations and all television and film production shots.

TODD HEDRICK, former general manager of Aloha Tower Marketplace, has joined commercial and industrial property management firm, Colliers Monroe & Friedlander as vice president of a newly created Shopping Center Division. The new division will consolidate into one entity the firm's existing shopping center leasing and management groups. The industry veteran began his career in 1990 with Landmark Property Corp., overseeing such properties as Restaurant Row and Manoa Marketplace.

TERI-LYNN PAREL has been promoted at Atlantis Adventures to sales manager for the company's westbound — mainly U.S. Mainland and Canada — visitor market. Before joining the company in March, she was assistant to the vice president of sales and marketing for Internet and computer networking company, Net-Enterprise Inc.
