Educator, political activist Kamaka Clark-Miyamoto

Kamaka Clark-Miyamoto, a retired teacher, political activist and champion for keeping the legacy of her cousin Duke Kahanamoku alive in the Islands, died Aug. 20 at her home in Kane'ohe. She was 75.

Clark-Miyamoto was born in Honolulu and graduated from Roosevelt High School, Graceland College, the University of Hawai'i and Iowa State College.

She taught at public elementary schools and Puumaile Hospital schools. She was twice named Educator of the Year by the Hawai'i Government Employees Association. Clark-Miyamoto, also known as Florence Kamakaopiopio Miyamoto, was the widow of Alfred Miyamoto, former football coach and athletic director at Castle High.

She served as president of the HGEA O'ahu Educators Chapter, a member of the HGEA board of directors and the Hawai'i State Teachers Association board of directors.

She is survived by a daughter, Al Piikea Miyamoto.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 30 at the O'ahu Cemetery Chapel with visitation at 9 a.m. Aloha attire is requested.
