Three foundations assist camps

The American Cancer Society's 2003 cancer camp programs for children have received monetary gifts from several local foundations. They are:

  • $3,500 from The Julia Temple Davis Brown Foundation for the keiki summer camp, Camp Anuenue; the teen retreat, Camp Ikaika; and the family get-together, Families Can*Sur*Vive.
  • $3,500 from the Alexander & Baldwin Foundation, which enabled children from Maui and Kaua'i to attend the 2003 Camp Anuenue summer program on O'ahu.
  • $2,000 from Prudential Locations Foundation for Camp Anuenue and Camp Ikaika.

Charity groups get computer

Aloha United Way has announced that six O'ahu nonprofit organizations received computer systems valued at more than $8,800. The recipients are Keiki O Ka Aina Family Learning Center, Hina Mauka, KCAA Pre-Schools of Hawaii, Mental Health Kokua, Hawaii Literacy and Helping Hands Hawaii.

Since 1993, Aloha United Way has distributed 76 IBM computer systems to local charities. IBM's contribution is part of the company's annual nationwide technology donations program. The computers will help the nonprofits operate more efficiently, introduce children to new learning opportunities and help adult clients develop important job skills.
