How Hawai'i hotels are faring

Occupancy rates retreated from the 90 percent territory of the previous week, but hotels on all islands posted increases over last year. Statewide occupancy reached 80.7 percent for the week ending Aug. 23, according to Hospitality Advisors LLC. Kaua'i led the islands at 88.6 percent occupancy. Maui maintained its lead in daily room rates at $199.47. O'ahu experienced a surge in occupancy to 77.8 percent while its average room rate increased to $123.29.
