11 arrested, charged in N. Kona drug raid

HONALO, Hawai'i — Kona vice officers seized more than an ounce of methamphetamine and arrested 11 people Tuesday in a raid on a North Kona home where suspected drug activity had been reported over the past several months.

Police also seized two handguns, and took four children into protective custody. The children, a 10-month-old baby and older children who are 2, 6, and 8, were turned over to Child Protective Services.

Charged in the case were Kevin Ramirez, 35; Elston Hooper Sr., 43; Orson Carson, 37; Shaun Hooper, 19; Elston Hooper Jr., 21; and Jared Medeiros, 26.

Also arrested and charged were Harmony Moses, 29; Shawnette Hooper, 30; Deyla-Mae Hooper, 22; Raynell Hooper, 20; and Rita Reeves, 21.

Police serving a search warrant recovered almost 31 grams of crystal methamphetamine, about two grams of cocaine and 22 grams of marijuana.

Assisting in the investigation were officers from the criminal intelligence unit, community policing officers, the special response unit and the Hawai'i Army National Guard.
