Arrest made in stabbing

HILO, Hawai'i — Police arrested a 19-year-old Kea'au man yesterday in the stabbing of a 17-year-old Puna youth during a fight earlier this month at a birthday party at a home in Hawaiian Paradise Park.

Kenneth Ray Pantalion Jr. was arrested at 12:15 p.m. on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, police said. Police said the 17-year-old was stabbed several times at about 11 p.m. Aug. 9. The youth escaped to another home on 27th Avenue with a large diving knife still embedded in his left forearm, police said.

Several males chased the victim to the neighboring house, where they taunted the occupants before leaving, police said.

The injured youth was taken to the Hilo Medical Center and later flown to The Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, where he underwent surgery.

In Mokule'ia, three engines, two tankers and a helicopter fought a fire that was extinguished but popped up across the street from Camp Erdman, Kane said. Crews had contained the fire by 8:30 p.m.
