Gas prices reach new highs
Gasoline prices in Hawai'i and across the nation reached new highs again yesterday amid peak Labor Day weekend demand.
The price for a gallon of self-serve regular in Hawai'i rose to an average of $2.101 a gallon, compared with Thursday's price of $2.094 a gallon, according to the AAA travel club. Nationwide, prices at the pump rose slightly to $1.736 a gallon the highest price in at least 10 years.
Helping to drive up Hawai'i's average, which is second only to California, was a record high average price of $2.02 a gallon for gasoline in Honolulu. The spike in prices comes as more people take to the roads because of a strike by Honolulu bus workers.
