EDITORIAL
Bus strike sparks some good habits

The bus strike has inspired many commuters to dust off their walking shoes, bicycles and rollerblades, and travel al-fresco to work or school.

And frankly, we think it's great to see so many active people of all ages on the streets of Honolulu.

Plus, the traffic's a lot quieter without the constant roar of diesel-belching buses.

Of course, that doesn't help those bus commuters who live in, say, 'Ewa or Wai'anae and work downtown or in Waikiki. For their sakes, it's important to settle this strike.

But hopefully, those with short commutes will opt to keep walking, cycling or rollerblading.

And now that we've heard how peaceful Honolulu can be, we urge the city to get cracking on replacing the old buses with nonpolluting electric-gas hybrids.
