Quinnipiac halts Hilo's three-game win streak

Rob Monroe scored 36 points as Quinnipiac (Conn.) beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 85-74, in the Hilo Shootout last night at UHH Gym.

Quinnipiac (2-3) ended UH Hilo's three-game winning streak. The Vulcans are 4-2.

Monroe made 12 of 22 field-goal attempts, including six 3-pointers.

Hilo's Ryan Abraham scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Joe Travis added 21 points and seven rebounds.

In an earlier game, Rider beat Dartmouth, 68-64, behind 24 points by Jerry Johnson.


SURFING

• Rip Curl postponed: The second round of the Rip Curl Cup men's surfing contest was postponed yesterday because of decreasing wave heights at Sunset Beach.

Eight Hawai'i surfers are in the contest, including world champion Andy Irons from Kaua'i.

The Rip Curl Cup is the second of three contests in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

Contest officials have until Dec. 7 to run two more days of competition. For daily status, call 596-7873.
