Kahumoku wins WAC weekly honor

Hawai'i left-side hitter Lily Kahumoku yesterday won her second Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week award of the season.
Kahumoku, a senior from Lubbock, Texas, led the No. 2-ranked Rainbow Wahine to three-game victories over Weber State and Kentucky at the UNLV Thanksgiving Tournament last week.
She had 16 kills each against Kentucky and Weber State, and 11 and 12 digs, respectively.
Kahumoku, a two-time All-American, is averaging 4.46 kills per game, 3.4 digs per game and a .300 hitting percentage.
She was named second-team academic All-American on Sunday.
Hawai'i (32-1) will open the NCAA Women's Volleyball Championships against Idaho (19-10) at approximately 7 p.m. Thursday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Brigham Young (23-8) plays New Mexico State (30-4) at 5 p.m.
Southern California (29-0) remained No. 1 in the USA Today/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 for the 14th consecutive week, followed by UH, Florida (31-1), Pepperdine (25-2) and Stanford (23-6).
The top three has remained the same for the entire regular season starting with the first poll on Sept. 1.
BASKETBALL
UH women's alumnae game: The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team is inviting all former Rainbow Wahine players to its alumnae game on Dec. 14.
There will be pre- and post-game receptions, and a ceremony during halftime of the Hawai'i-Saint Mary's game, which is at 5 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

SURFING
Rip Curl postponed again: The second round of the Rip Curl Cup men's surfing contest was postponed for the second consecutive day due to decreasing wave heights yesterday at Sunset Beach.
Eight Hawai'i surfers are in the contest, including world champion Andy Irons from Kaua'i.
The Rip Curl Cup is the second of three contests in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
Contest officials have until Dec. 7 to run two more days of competition. For daily status, call 596-7873.
