Body of man, 75, found in Big Island gulch

Associated Press

The body of a 75-year-old man was found at the bottom of Honokoa Gulch yesterday, Big Island police said.

Police responding to an anonymous tip discovered the body around 2:30 p.m. below the Honokoa Gulch bridge on Route 270 about a mile north of Kawaihae Harbor. There was no evidence of foul play, and police said the man may have fallen into the gulch.

His identity wasn't released pending notification of family members. Detectives said the man had been dead for about 24 hours. An autopsy was ordered.
