Rescuers ready at Kaka'ako, but not needed

Honolulu firefighters and paramedics were ready at Kaka'ako Waterfront Park yesterday to launch a search for a missing diver. But as Battalion Chief William Kaai, left, heard on his radio from the Coast Guard, the diver was found to be safe several hundred yards offshore. The would-be rescue was called off, and the diver swam back to shore unaided.
