Teens arrested in stabbing

A 20-year-old man was stabbed in the chest last night during an argument with two girls at Queen's Surf beach in Waikiki.

The man is in critical condition with a punctured lung at The Queen's Medical Center but is expected to recover, police said. He was stabbed once with a butterfly knife at about 11:50 p.m.

Police said the man was drinking with a group of people that included the two girls, ages 16 and 17. One of the girls allegedly punched the victim while the other stabbed him. The stabbing victim called 911 to report the incident.

The two teens were arrested near the scene shortly after midnight on suspicion of stabbing and assaulting the man. Police have been unable to interview the victim and have received conflicting reports on which girl allegedly stabbed the man.

Both girls were booked as juveniles on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a prohibited weapon. In addition, the older girl was booked on third-degree assault. Police sent the girls, who have not yet been charged, to a juvenile detention facility.

Rocks fall along Waimea highway

State crews were sent today to clear away fallen rocks from the shoulder of Kamehameha Highway near the park entrance to Waimea Bay.

State Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Ishikawa said that about a dozen rocks fell — the largest was the size of a football — at about 10 a.m. on the Hale'iwa side of Waimea Bay. The cleanup was not expected to force a road closure, said Ishikawa.
